About this role
Responsible for the safe operation of a medium lift twin engine helicopter in single pilot day/night/NVG visual and instrument flight conditions. Performs flight duty in a 24-hour hospital-based operation. Adheres to CAMTS guidelines throughout all activities.
Prepares VFR/IFR flight plans in accordance with applicable Federal Aviation Regulations, Arkansas Children's General Aviation Operations Manual, and policies. Ensures aircraft is prepared for flight per the Aircraft Operator's Manual and checks discrepancy log. Performs maintenance operational checks and enters discrepancies into the aircraft log book.
Operates within the Angel One Aviation department in a safety-sensitive role for hospital transport. Files, activates, and closes flight plans while maintaining communication with maintenance and the Angel One Communications Center. Ensures proper completion of flight logs, manifest records, and maintenance forms.
Maintains proficiency as Pilot-in-Command per FAR Part 135.293/299 and Single Pilot Instrument Flight Rules per FAR Part 135.297. Notifies the Director of Operations of any medical deficiency affecting flight safety. Supports a tobacco-free workplace in a 24-hour operation adhering to strict aviation standards.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Class 1 Medical Certification or Class 2 Medical Certification - FAA
- Commercial Helicopter with Instrument - FAA
- Proficiency in single pilot day/night/NVG visual and instrument flight conditions
- Ability to operate medium lift twin engine helicopter
- Compliance with CAMTS guidelines for hospital-based air medical operations
- No current use of medical marijuana due to safety-sensitive designation
Responsibilities
- Complies with all FAA Regulations (FAR's, 14 CFR), Angel One Transport General Aviation Operations Manual, Safety Manual, Training Manual and all other Arkansas Children's policies and procedures
- Prepares VFR/IFR flight plans in accordance with applicable Federal Aviation Regulations, Arkansas Children's General Aviation Operations Manual, and policies
- Ensures aircraft is prepared for flight in accordance with the Aircraft Operator's Manual and General Aviation Operations Manual
- Performs maintenance operational checks and/or flights and enters mechanical discrepancies into aircraft log book
- Files, activates and closes flight plans
- Ensures proper completion of flight logs, manifest records and maintenance forms
- Maintains proficiency as Pilot-in-Command as per FAR Part 135.293/299 and Single Pilot Instrument Flight Rules (SPIFR) proficiency as per FAR Part 135.297
- Notifies the Director of Operations whenever a medical deficiency exists that would affect the safety of flight
