About this role

Northrop Grumman's MQ-4C Triton Unmanned Aircraft System provides real-time intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance over vast ocean and coastal regions. The aircraft can fly for more than 24 hours at altitudes above 55,000 feet with an operational range of 8,200 nautical miles. Australia is a cooperative program partner with the US Navy, Royal Australian Air Force and Northrop Grumman.

In this entry-level position, you’ll be part of the Triton Launch and Recovery team supporting safe aircraft movements across day, night and weekend operations. You’ll work closely with ground maintenance crews and air traffic control to ensure every mission is carried out safely and to the highest standard. Full training is provided to kick-start your career in aviation operations.

You will assist during launch and recovery, act as Safety Vehicle Operator, perform pre-starts and preflight checks, maintain clear communication with ATC, record unserviceable equipment, and support perimeter control for cryptographic and sensitive equipment. High safety standards and precise procedures are maintained in a close-knit operational team. A proactive attitude toward safety and tidy workspaces is essential.

You’re motivated, eager to learn technical skills, and operate specialised equipment with high attention to detail. Strong communication supports multiple teams while following approved procedures precisely. Eligibility for security clearance ensures readiness for this aviation role.

Requirements

  • Australian citizenship required
  • Eligibility to hold and maintain AU-Top Secret (NV2) clearance
  • Willingness to learn technical skills and operate specialised equipment
  • High attention to detail and ability to follow approved procedures precisely
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working with multiple teams
  • Proactive attitude toward safety, reporting hazards and keeping workspace tidy

Responsibilities

  • Assist the team during launch and recovery operations, including acting as the Safety Vehicle Operator
  • Perform vehicle pre-starts and aircraft preflight checks to ensure all equipment is safe and ready
  • Maintain clear communication between ground crews and ATC throughout operations
  • Record and report unserviceable equipment and help support timely repairs
  • Support perimeter control and documentation of cryptographic and sensitive equipment
