About this role
Abacus Technology is seeking a Cyber Security Operations Controller III to provide network security support for the AFCENT Network Operations and Security Center (NOSC) at Shaw AFB. This full-time role involves monitoring and securing aviation-related networks against threats. Professionals will handle critical cyber defense tasks in a military aviation environment.
Daily duties include conducting network security monitoring and incident triage using tools like IDS/IPS, firewall, proxy, router, Microsoft Windows, Fidelis, and HBSS logs. Team members enter event data into mission support systems, produce security reports, and perform trend analysis of authorized and unauthorized activity. Correlation of suspicious network activity across AFCENT/USCENTCOM ensures timely threat validation.
In this team-oriented setting, collaborate on network defense statistical reporting and development of countermeasures such as IDS/IPS signatures. Track and document security events including Discharge of Classified Information and Cross Domain Violations per USCENTCOM/AFCENT policy. Coordinate Information Assurance Vulnerabilities Alerts (IAVA) and develop POA&Ms for compliance.
Gain exposure to evaluating adversary network profiles, including physical locations, architectures, and vulnerabilities. Support LAN/WAN operations within a high-stakes aviation security center. Advance skills in complex cyber security planning and communication with peers and stakeholders.
Requirements
- 5+ years experience in cyber and network operations
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (additional experience may substitute)
- Security+ certified
- Network+ or CCNA certified
- ITIL v3 or v4 Foundations certification or able to obtain within 60 days of hire
- Firewall, ACAS, and HBSS experience
- Experience evaluating adversary's network profile including assets, architectures, security policies, and vulnerabilities
- U.S. citizen holding current Secret clearance
Responsibilities
- Conduct network security monitoring and incident triage using AFCENT/USCENTCOM security tools including IDS/IPS, firewall, proxy, router, Microsoft Windows, Fidelis, and HBSS logs
- Enter event data into mission support systems per operational procedures and produce security reports
- Perform trend analysis of authorized and unauthorized activity on AFCENT/USCENTCOM security tools
- Correlate unusual and suspicious network activity across AFCENT/USCENTCOM and validate by region and sensor
- Assist in network defense/cybersecurity statistical and trend data and operational event reporting
- Assist in developing countermeasures to isolate, contain, and prevent intrusive activities including IDS/IPS signatures
- Track, document, and report security events including Discharge of Classified Information and Cross Domain Violations
- Coordinate and track IAVA, review AFCENT compliance, and develop POA&Ms if needed
