US · Full-time · $101,100 – $158,000

About this role

Stratolaunch is a technology accelerator that engineers operationally realistic testing at Mach 5+. Our air-launched, Talon testbeds are reusable, cost-effective platforms that enable routine access to the hypersonic environment. We seek a level II or Sr-level Avionics Engineer to support design, integration, testing, and maintenance of hypersonic, air-launched vehicle electrical and avionics systems.

The avionics system is critical to mission success and interfaces with every subsystem. This position includes collaborating with other system owners to understand requirements and engineer solutions. You will receive direction from lead avionics engineers on component/system development, system analysis, design for manufacturing, hardware integration, and system-level testing.

Coordinate with subsystem leads and engineers across disciplines to develop requirements, test plans, and procedures. Perform analysis to gauge system design adequacy and performance. Maintain configuration control over major avionics elements including wiring diagrams, 3D CAD, and work orders.

Support ground and flight tests, create presentations for design reviews, and evaluate risks with mitigation plans. Demonstrate ownership of responsibilities while communicating regularly with the Avionics Lead. Together with customers, drive innovations imperative to advancing national security.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, electrical engineering, avionics, electronics, software development, circuit design, experimental aircraft and/or launch vehicle integration
  • Experience integrating launch vehicle or aircraft electrical power systems
  • Experience with troubleshooting Ethernet networks
  • Experience with data acquisition and instrumentation (thermocouples, accelerometers, strain)
  • Experience creating wiring diagrams and/or circuit schematics
  • Experience with flight vehicle troubleshooting and modifications
  • Experience with electrical design analysis such as power budgets, thermal analysis, or RF budgets
  • Experience with system analysis, such as telemetry bandwidth and/or telemetry link margin

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, analyze, integrate, and test avionics and electrical systems
  • Maintain configuration control over major avionics system elements including wiring diagrams, 3D CAD, work orders
  • Coordinate with other subsystem leads to develop requirements, test plans, and procedures
  • Coordinate with engineers across a broad spectrum of disciplines to understand requirements and engineer technical solutions
  • Perform analysis to gauge system design adequacy and performance to meet program requirements
  • Create presentations and support design reviews throughout vehicle development
  • Support ground and/or flight test, as required
  • Evaluate risks and risk mitigation plans to determine if the risks and mitigations are appropriate
