About this role

As Watch Commander at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, you will take prompt and swift actions to mobilize ARFF resources during aircraft accidents, structural fires, and other incidents related to public health. You will coordinate with Air Traffic Control, the Incident Commander, and the Command Post for effective incident management in accordance with the Aerodrome Emergency Plan.

Your day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring aircraft movements in the maneuvering area and overseeing the serviceability of all ARFF appliances. You will ensure proper functioning of watch tower equipment and communication systems, and maintain critical records for regulatory compliance and audit purposes.

This role requires close liaison with multiple stakeholders, including the Airport Operations Control Centre, Airside Operations, Technical Services, and external agencies like the Telengana State Disaster Response & Fire Service. You will also maintain records of vehicular movements, fuel spillage, and structural fires occurring within the airport jurisdiction.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to take prompt and swift actions in high-pressure emergency situations involving aircraft and structural fires.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Aerodrome Emergency Plan and Standard Operating Procedures for airport incident management.
  • Experience coordinating with Air Traffic Control, Incident Commanders, and emergency response agencies for effective incident management.
  • Familiarity with ARFF watch tower equipment, communication systems, and defect rectification processes.
  • Ability to maintain detailed occurrence reports and log books for regulatory and certification audits.
  • Experience in monitoring vehicle movements, fuel spillage, and fire incidents within an airport jurisdiction.
  • Competency in operating Building Management System consoles and CCTV systems to detect abnormalities.

Responsibilities

  • Mobilize ARFF resources during aircraft accidents, incidents, structural fires, and public health emergencies in accordance with the Aerodrome Emergency Plan and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Test and ensure proper functioning of ARFF watch tower equipment and communication systems, maintaining serviceability status in the watch tower checklist.
  • Monitor aircraft movements in the maneuvering area and initiate necessary actions, coordinating with emergency response agencies for effective incident management.
  • Obtain reports from Manager-ARFF Operations regarding serviceability of all ARFF appliances and initiate defect rectification with concerned agencies.
  • Maintain liaison with Air Traffic Control, Airport Operations Control Centre, Airside Operations, Technical Services, IT&C, CISF, Airport Medical Center, and the Telengana State Disaster Response & Fire Service.
  • Maintain records of ARFF vehicular movements, aircraft incidents/accidents, fuel spillage, structural fires, and other incidents for regulatory evidence and audits.
  • Monitor the Building Management System console and CCTV system, taking necessary actions when abnormalities are noticed.
  • Take necessary actions to mobilize additional resources including manpower during emergencies as per direction of the Incident Commander.
