About this role

The ATC Specialist serves as the designee responsible for the overall daily safe and expeditious flow of air traffic within the designated facility control airspace in accordance with ICAO and FAA 7110.65 regulatory guidance.

Rules of separation must be applied to achieve required separation as outlined in FAA manuals and orders while maintaining situational awareness of the overall flow of air traffic operations at the assigned facility.

The role includes responsibility for all ATC facility operations and services during the shift, adherence to CRM principles, and coordination with controllers and personnel to relay aircraft information including emergency details.

The specialist also manages vehicles and personnel on the airfield, processes flight plans, and supervises approach, departure, and arrival procedures with full knowledge of control tower operations and flight planning.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved DoD or FAA ATC course
  • Eight (8) years of experience with one (1) year performing in a like type facility
  • Knowledge of ATC rules, regulations, and techniques; control tower and approach control operations
  • Hold FAA Control Tower Operator (CTO) certificate, FAA or AOV Credential with Tower rating, or equivalent
  • Ability to obtain and maintain FAA Class II Medical Certificate
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US CENTCOM Medical Exam
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance (US Citizenship required)

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the overall daily safe and expeditious flow of air traffic within designated facility control airspace per ICAO and FAA 7110.65 guidance
  • Apply rules of separation to achieve required separation as outlined in FAA manuals and orders
  • Maintain situational awareness of the overall flow of air traffic operations at the assigned facility
  • Coordinate with controllers and personnel to relay information pertaining to aircraft and safety of flight including emergencies
  • Control vehicles and personnel operating on the airfield
  • Process flight plans and supervise approach, departure, and arrival procedures
  • Apply full working knowledge of control tower operations and flight planning
