GN · Full-time · PGK 80,000 – PGK 150,000
About this role
At Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF), we bring help, hope, and healing to remote communities in Papua New Guinea, one of our largest programmes. Aviation serves hundreds of isolated areas where roads don't reach. We're seeking a skilled Avionics Engineer to keep our fleet mission-ready.
You'll maintain, troubleshoot, and repair avionics systems across single-engine turbine and piston aircraft in challenging jungle and mountain terrain. Support line and base maintenance while ensuring compliance with local regulations and MAF safety standards. Every takeoff and landing depends on your precision.
Work closely with technical teams in Mount Hagen and remote bases. Focus on preventative maintenance with inspections every 50 or 100 flight hours to catch issues early. Join a crew passionate about safety as a lifeline in rugged environments.
Mentor national engineers and apprentices, passing on skills to build independent capability. Combine technical expertise with a heart for mission and Kingdom impact. Experience the joy of seeing others grow in confidence amid adventure-approved work.
Requirements
- Recognised qualification and licence in Avionics or Aircraft Maintenance (Part 66 B2 or equivalent)
- Practical experience in the maintenance, repair, and modification of avionics systems

- Willingness to serve in a remote, cross-cultural context with flexibility and resilience
- Heart for mission and desire to use technical skills for Kingdom impact
- Passion for mentoring and training national engineers and apprentices

Responsibilities
- Inspect aircraft avionics systems for continued airworthiness
- Perform fault diagnosis on electrical, radio, and instrument systems
- Test avionics systems including wiring, LRUs, and integrated systems
- Apply approved maintenance data, regulatory standards, and aircraft documentation
- Release avionics systems to service in safe and compliant condition
