About this role

In the Senior Avionics Engineer role, you will provide engineering design and certification support for integration of avionics systems into normal, business, transport and military derivative aircraft. This role supports Supplemental Type Certificate and major repair and alteration projects managed by the FAA and the Peregrine ODA within Metrea Aerospace Design.

You will perform avionics engineering tasks including reviewing customer requirements, researching project needs, and conducting aircraft surveys with some travel. Create interconnect drawings, Installation Data Packages with fabrication and installation drawings, and certification compliance documents for STC and TSOA projects.

Support design for product obsolescence replacements, including RTCA DO-160 qualification and Technical Standard Order Authorizations. Write Engineering Orders, installation instructions, and produce aircraft manual supplements for maintenance and operations.

Assist and mentor junior avionics engineers in design, research, and analysis. Support Sales & Business Development with proposals, technical reviews, and certifiability assessments for civil and military requirements, plus FAA or foreign agency certifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 8+ years of relevant design and installation of avionics systems
  • 10-15 years working experience in designing/engineering and installation of avionics systems upgrades
  • Familiar with FAA certification processes (STC, Major Alterations)
  • AutoCAD proficiency
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency
  • USA Passport and available for domestic & international travel (occasional)

Responsibilities

  • Review customer requirements including Statement(s) of Work
  • Research and analysis of project requirements
  • Perform aircraft surveys and collect required data (less than 20% travel)
  • Create interconnect drawings for all affected avionics systems
  • Create Installation Data Package including systems and electrical fabrication, assembly and installation drawings
  • Create certification compliance documents for STC and TSOA projects
  • Support design and certification for product obsolescence replacement components including RTCA DO-160 qualification
  • Support Sales & Business Development staff with proposals and technical review of customer requirements
