Government of Nova Scotia

CA · Full-time · C$115,550 – C$131,350

About this role

Nova Scotia’s natural landscapes demand a special kind of pilot. The Department of Natural Resources’ Aviation Services team brings missions to life from the air, providing helicopter support for wildfire suppression, inland search and rescue, public safety, and natural resource management. With over 70 years of operational excellence, pilots deliver precision results under pressure in rugged terrain.

Fly high-performance H-125 helicopters with a primary focus on wildfire response, emergency response, natural resource external load support, remote bush operations, and intense unprepared landing areas. Operate as tactical operators, not just transporters, in challenging VFR environments across forests, wetlands, and coastal terrain. Sling gear into tight LZs and drop buckets on active wildfires.

Join a small, experienced team flying for the public good in well-maintained aircraft. Collaborate with engineers, ground support, public safety officers, and conservation teams during high-tempo missions. Assist ground crews, respond to missing persons requests, rescue injured citizens from remote areas, and aid local law enforcement.

Upgrade mid-career utility flying experience to a stable, full-time, year-round, unionized public service position in beautiful Nova Scotia. Ideal for external load specialists, wildfire veterans, and bush pilots ready for government employment. Negotiate start dates around current seasonal contracts.
