About this role

Under the direction of Director of the Capacity Development and Implementation Bureau (CDI), the Field Operations Section (FOS) develops, implements, monitors, evaluates, and closes Technical Assistance (TA) and Technical Cooperation (TC) projects. It identifies priority areas, develops objectives, activities, deliverables, timelines, and budgetary requirements for country-specific and regional projects. The Field Personnel Section (FPS/FRU) recruits international experts for Civil Aviation fields and manages the ICAO Roster of Experts.

Obtain aerodrome control rating for selected airport as soon as possible. Perform tower controller’s duties at the airport being rated. Maintain coordination with military controller, if applicable, and other ATC units.

Provide on-the-job training on approach radar control to nationals with basic air traffic control training. Assess performance of trainee controllers and recommend their rating as tower controllers. Hand over approach radar control duties to rated nationals while retaining a supervisory role.

Ensure ATC procedures and instructions at area control centre are up-to-date and conform to ICAO requirements, responding to needs of other airport users. Demonstrate professionalism, communication, teamwork, planning and organizing, and accountability. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Aerodrome control rating
  • Experience performing tower controller duties
  • Knowledge of ICAO ATC procedures and standards
  • Ability to provide on-the-job training in approach radar control
  • Skills in assessing trainee controller performance
  • Proficiency in coordinating with military and other ATC units
  • Mastery of air traffic control subject matter
  • Conformity with ICAO requirements in ATC operations
