About this role

Reporting to the Flight Dispatch Manager, the Flight Dispatcher delivers safe, compliant, and effective flight planning and flight-following solutions to VAA, VARA, and client airlines. This role focuses on preparing Flight Crew briefing packages within regulatory requirements and company procedures. It entails detailed evaluation of weather conditions, enroute winds and turbulence, airspace restrictions, notices to airmen, fuel contingencies, and takeoff/landing restrictions.

Work closely with key stakeholders in the IOC, Flight Operations, Airservices Australia, and Virgin Australia’s meteorological suppliers to achieve safe, efficient outcomes. Develop and certify accurate flight plan data while optimising take-off and landing performance to maximise payload uplifts. Liaise with air navigation service providers on flight dispatch matters.

Provide written operational briefs to Flight Crew before departure, highlighting key considerations. Assist with flight planning and meteorological queries, and support situational awareness by relaying updates to crew on the ground and in-flight. The shift-based role operates 24/7 in the Integrated Operations Centre.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience working in high-capacity airline logistics or similar environment
  • Good understanding of Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) regulations
  • In-depth understanding of principles of flight planning and aircraft performance
  • Tertiary qualifications in Aviation and/or a pilot's license
  • Demonstrated experience in interpreting complex technical issues and implementing safe and effective solutions
  • In-depth understanding of aviation meteorology
  • Ability to commit to a rotating day and night shift roster

Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, compliant, and effective flight planning and flight-following solutions to VAA, VARA, and client airlines
  • Prepare Flight Crew briefing packages evaluating weather, enroute winds, turbulence, airspace restrictions, NOTAMs, fuel contingencies, and takeoff/landing restrictions
  • Develop and certify accurate flight plan data for safe and efficient flight operations
  • Optimise take-off and landing performance calculations to maximise aircraft payload uplifts
  • Liaise with air navigation service providers and service providers on flight dispatch matters
  • Provide written operational brief to each Flight Crew before departure
  • Assist flight crew with flight planning and meteorological queries
  • Relay operational information and updates to support Flight Crew situational awareness
