About this role

Our Air Traffic Services team plays an essential part in maintaining the safe, orderly and expeditious flow of air traffic at the airport. London Southend Airport provides both Radar and Tower services on site. Air Traffic Controllers ensure aircraft are always safe in airspace, on the ground and within manoeuvring areas, in line with regulatory standards.

Day to day, you will organise and control air traffic arriving, departing, and flying in the vicinity of the airport. You will control both aircraft and vehicles on the manoeuvring area. Responsibilities include providing an alerting service to airfield and external agencies.

You will produce and publish meteorological reports in line with CAP782 and select airfield lighting in accordance with CAP168. Fully embody the Airport’s ‘One Team’ culture and undertake other activities to support business needs. The airport operates 24/7, with shifts including early mornings, late nights, weekends and bank holidays.

Requirements

  • Hold a valid Air Traffic Controller Licence issued by the UK CAA
  • Hold UK CAA Aerodrome Control Rating and Endorsement
  • Able to meet the CAA Medical Standard
  • UK CAA Approach Surveillance Rating and Endorsement (preferred)
  • UK CAA Approach Procedural Rating and Endorsement (preferred)
  • OJTI/EXM Endorsements (preferred)
  • Meteorological Observers Certificate (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Organise and control air traffic arriving, departing, and flying in the vicinity of London Southend Airport
  • Control both aircraft and vehicles on the manoeuvring area
  • Provide an alerting service to airfield and external agencies
  • Produce and publish meteorological reports in line with CAP782
  • Select airfield lighting in accordance with CAP168

  • Work any shift during 24/7 operating hours, including early mornings, late nights, weekends and bank holidays
