About this role

This role supports the installation, transition, and sustainment of next-generation Voice Communication Switch (VCS) systems for the FAA. The Field Services Technician leads site preparation, system cutovers, and customer acceptance while decommissioning legacy systems in operational environments.

Daily responsibilities include conducting site surveys, performing system testing and validation, and troubleshooting voice, network, and hardware faults. The technician also executes decommissioning of legacy voice platforms, maintains accurate technical documentation, and provides on-site customer support and end-user orientation as needed.

This position requires independent operation in remote field locations with 95% travel nationwide. The technician works directly with customers and coordinates closely with engineers and program teams during deployments, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and site security standards.

This role involves handling complex technical challenges under time constraints in operational environments. Technicians work on next-generation voice communication systems critical to aviation safety, gaining exposure to advanced telecommunications infrastructure and VoIP technologies.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years relevant experience with a BS/BA degree, or 6 years in lieu of degree
  • US Citizenship and ability to obtain a public trust clearance
  • Hands-on experience with Voice Communication Switch (VCS) systems or similar mission-critical voice platforms
  • Experience supporting system cutovers, migrations, or technology refresh efforts
  • Knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure, VoIP technologies, cabling standards, and power validation
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause diagnostic skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, push/pull up to 200 pounds, and stand for extended periods; must be fit for extensive travel and rotating shift work

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support site surveys, site preparation, and system installation activities
  • Execute and support VCS system cutovers from legacy voice platforms to next-generation systems
  • Perform decommissioning of legacy voice communication systems
  • Conduct independent system testing and validation to confirm power, cabling, and equipment compliance
  • Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of VCS and supporting telecom/IT infrastructure
  • Provide on-site customer support and end-user orientation or training as needed
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, service reports, and cutover records
