About this role

Airbus Defence and Space is seeking a Chief Engineer to lead the technical direction of future SATCOM projects within the Connected Intelligence division. This role ensures end-to-end technical coherence, compliance, and performance of satellite communication solutions from contract signature through in-service operation.

In this position, you will collect and understand customer and program requirements, derive the Concept of Operations and Product Breakdown Structure, and allocate contract requirements to the appropriate Centers of Competence. You will define and evaluate technical trade-offs, manage product safety and security, and conduct technical reviews across the entire product lifecycle.

You will collaborate closely with Centers of Competence and Enablers to integrate technical solutions, manage changes through impact analysis, and drive cost on non-quality. The role also involves tailoring processes and tools in partnership with Quality project management, ensuring workload planning aligns with CoC capabilities.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Chief Engineer or technical lead in satellite communications or aerospace systems engineering
  • Deep understanding of satellite communication systems, including SATCOM payloads, ground segments, and end-to-end system architecture
  • Ability to manage technical trade-offs across cost, performance, risk, and schedule
  • Experience with product lifecycle management, including requirements derivation, technical reviews, and certification processes
  • Strong analytical skills for impact analysis, risk mitigation, and quality management
  • Familiarity with Product Breakdown Structure, Work Breakdown Structure, and Cost Breakdown Structure integration
  • Ability to coordinate multiple Centers of Competence and cross-functional teams

Responsibilities

  • Technically ensure end-to-end technical coherence, overall compliance, and performance of the solution through the entire life-cycle from contract signature to in-service operation
  • Identify the right Centers of Competence and Enablers to provide technical solutions, knowledge, or services that contribute towards the overall solution
  • Collect and understand customers’ requirements, programme’s requirements, and applicable obligations
  • Derive the Concept of Operations and the Product Breakdown Structure in collaboration with CoCs
  • Define, evaluate, and decide on trade-offs including technical, cost, value, manufacturing, service, and risks along cost level together with Programme and CoCs
  • Ensure overall product safety, security, and reliability requirements are considered
  • Conduct Technical Reviews along the whole product lifecycle and within individual technical solutions provided by CoCs
  • Manage and achieve accreditation or certification of the product with the support of Enablers
