About this role

The Aircraft Dispatcher IV dispatches assigned resources and serves as a communication link for incidents and aviation management during incident response. This role maintains current and accurate records of resource availability while monitoring resources assigned to wildfires and other activities.

Daily operations include coordinating resource availability, weather data, and fire behavior information with field personnel and supervisors. The dispatcher maintains situational awareness of resources and conditions, communicating updates as needed to support effective wildfire response.

Work occurs in a dispatch center on a 10-hour rotating shift schedule that includes holidays and weekends. During periods of increased activity, shifts extend to 12 hours, with on-call duties requiring availability within 30 minutes when requested.

Staff participate in training to maintain readiness and become eligible for additional out-of-state assignments under the Wildland Fire Qualification System. The position supports aviation operations statewide with emergency response as an essential duty.

Requirements

  • Ability to carry cell phone after hours when on-call and report to dispatch within 30 minutes after being requested.
  • Availability to work holidays, weekends, and extended 12-hour shifts during increased activity.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally overnight to meetings or training.
  • Eligibility to become qualified for additional out-of-state duty in accordance with Wildland Fire Qualification System Guide (PMS-310-1).

Responsibilities

  • Dispatch assigned resources and serve as a communication link for incidents, aviation management, resource ordering, and logistical support.
  • Maintain current and accurate records of resource availability and dispatch and monitor resources to wildfires or other activities.
  • Coordinate regarding resource availability, weather data, duty times, fire activity, fire behavior and dispatch area response activity.
  • Maintain all dispatch records and logs, ensure timely and accurate completion of fire reports, and assist with implementation of new systems and technology.
  • Coordinate and review processing of FAMIS transactions, mileage reports, travel vouchers and purchase orders.
  • Manage and account for assigned TFS credit cards, TFS vehicle log books, daily activity time reports, and assigned TFS equipment.
  • Participate in necessary training to maintain readiness and assist with agency training efforts related to incident and wildfire management.
  • Aid in supporting aviation operations statewide with emergency response as an essential duty.
