The Baggage Handler assists airline passengers with the proper handling, processing, and transportation of their luggage. The role includes meeting scheduled arrivals and supporting passengers at baggage claim areas. Bilingual skills are required to serve a diverse traveler base.

Daily tasks involve loading and unloading luggage, managing oversized items such as skis and strollers, and placing bags safely on the handling system. Staff must determine flight times from tickets, verify baggage tags, and screen transferring passengers before returning items to belts.

Work takes place in a fast-paced airport environment where team members coordinate with dispatchers, gate agents, and security personnel. All activities must follow airport regulations, client security requirements, and government policies while completing incident reports as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Bilingual skills required
  • Ability to communicate with basic English language
  • No high school diploma, GED, or college degree required
  • No prior experience required; on-the-job training provided
  • One year of customer service experience preferred
  • Ability to effectively communicate with passengers, co-workers, and security personnel

Responsibilities

  • Load, unload, carry, and transport passenger luggage to and from specified areas
  • Assist with proper handling of oversized and unusually shaped items including skis, dog kennels, and strollers
  • Ensure passenger luggage is placed safely on the baggage handling system
  • Determine flight departure times and connecting carriers based on customer tickets
  • Screen passengers transferring between airlines and ensure baggage tags are correct
  • Direct and assist passengers with short-checked bags and handle misplaced or lost baggage claims
  • Coordinate assignments with dispatchers and gate agents while complying with all security requirements
  • Complete thorough incident reports and adhere to airport and government policies
